Study Programmes
Bachelor's Studies
The three-year bachelor's studies at the Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering, CTU in Prague, are intended for those interested in mathematics and its applications. Studies are full-time and include lectures, tutorials and seminars led by experienced teachers and experts from practice.
In the first years, students acquire a solid foundation in mathematics, computer science and other related disciplines. This allows them to gain a broad overview and gradually specialise according to their interests. The studies develop analytical thinking, problem-solving skills and the ability to work with modern mathematical methods.
Admission Requirements
- successfully passed matriculation examination (maturita) or a recognised equivalent,
- successfully passed entrance examination or fulfilment of the conditions for its waiver,
- ability to study in Czech, documented by an appropriate certificate.
Completion of Studies
To graduate, students must earn 180 credits, fulfil all compulsory study requirements, defend their bachelor's thesis and pass the State Final Examination. Graduates are awarded the degree of Bachelor (Bc.) and may continue in follow-up master's studies at FNSPE CTU or at other universities.
Why Study Mathematics?
Studying mathematics opens up a wide range of career opportunities in science, research, information technology, finance, industry and public administration. Graduates are valued for their analytical skills, logical thinking and ability to solve complex problems.
MASTER'S STUDIES
The two-year follow-up master's studies at the Department of Mathematics, FNSPE CTU in Prague, are intended for graduates of bachelor's programmes who wish to deepen their knowledge of mathematics and master advanced methods used in science, research and practice. Studies are offered in the full-time or combined form.
Students broaden their knowledge of pure and applied mathematics, numerical mathematics, mathematical modelling, optimisation, statistics and other specialised disciplines. The studies also include independent specialist work and involvement in research projects at the Department. Thanks to the close link between theory and applications, graduates are able to solve complex problems in engineering, the natural sciences and economics.
Admission Requirements
Successfully completed bachelor's studies at a university in the Czech Republic or abroad.
Successfully passed entrance examination or fulfilment of the conditions for its waiver.
Completion of Studies
To complete their studies, students must earn 120 credits and pass all compulsory courses. They then defend their master's thesis and pass the State Final Examination. Graduates are awarded the degree of Inženýr (Ing.). Graduation ceremonies are held in the Bethlehem Chapel. Graduates may continue in doctoral studies or find employment in research, industry, information technology, data analysis, the financial sector and other fields requiring advanced mathematical and analytical skills.
DOCTORAL STUDIES
Doctoral studies at the Department of Mathematics, FNSPE CTU in Prague, are intended for graduates of follow-up master's studies who are interested in independent scientific and research work in mathematics. The studies allow students to take part in solving current research problems and to develop their expertise under the guidance of experienced academic staff.
The core of the studies is independent research focused on the chosen dissertation topic. Students take part in scientific projects, publish the results of their research in scientific journals and present them at national and international conferences. The studies also include the development of teaching and presentation skills.
Admission Requirements
Successfully completed master's studies in mathematics or a related field. Final-year students of follow-up master's studies may also apply; their admission is conditional on its successful completion.
Successfully passed entrance examination testing specialist knowledge of mathematics, aptitude for scientific work and knowledge of English.
Completion of Studies
Studies are completed with the Doctoral State Examination and the defence of the dissertation. Successful graduates are awarded the degree of Ph.D. Doctoral studies develop the ability to carry out independent scientific work, critical thinking and professional communication. Graduates find employment mainly in research institutions, universities, technology companies, the financial sector and other fields that use advanced mathematical methods.
